Today is a day that we stop to say “thank you” and acknowledge our veterans for everything they do whether we agree with current or past wars or not. I saw a Vietnam Vet license plate the other day and I began thinking, those are our ignored vets. It was an unpopular war with society, so when they came home, they became the ignored.
While those in World Wars I and II were given hero status after they returned, soon they were the forgotten vets. Once the thrill of victory was over come by life returning to normal, they became the lost and forgotten. Though as time past, they have become less forgotten, most of them are gone. Today, while the system still isn’t perfect, we are trying harder not to forget or ignore our veterans, but there is still work to be done and changes to be made so they always receive the care they need. Today, try to remember that and don’t forget or ignore our veterans. It doesn’t matter if you agree with the politics behind the wars, just remember they have a job, too. A job that takes a toll on the mind, body, and spirit.
